The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday, February 14 named Kuldeep Yadav in place of injured Washington Sundar for the upcoming 3-match T20I series which will be played at Eden Gardens in Kolkata from February 16.
Washington Sundar has suffered a hamstring strain due to which he has been ruled out of the T20I series. The Tamil Nadu all-rounder, who was sold to Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction, played all three ODIs for India against the West Indies.
“All-rounder Washington Sundar suffered a muscle strain while fielding in the third ODI against West Indies at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Friday,” a BCCI release said.
Sundar has been battling a bout of injury in recent times. The all-rounder missed the second half of IPL 2021 and the T20 World Cup after he suffered a finger injury during India’s tour of England. He also missed India’s tour of South Africa earlier this year due to Kovid-19.
Kuldeep back in T20 team
Kuldeep was also part of the ODI squad and the left-arm wrist spinner made a comeback to the ODI set-up for the first time in almost a year when he played the final ODI on Friday. Kuldeep took 2 wickets in India’s win in the final of the series.
Kuldeep last played a T20 International for India in August last year during the 3-match series against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka.
